Information about wool – where does wool come from?

The shared history of humans and sheep stretches back thousands of years. According to current knowledge, humans domesticated sheep as livestock around 8000 BCE in Asia and the Middle East. Over the centuries, sheep have been bred and crossbred to produce several breeds for wool, fur, and meat production.
The location where sheep are raised, the climate, and how they are cared for all affect the quality of their wool. The length of wool fibers depends not only on breed characteristics but also on the shearing interval, which can vary from six months to a year.
After carding, the wool is sorted according to fiber fineness, length, strength, and color, and washed to remove debris, additives, and wool grease.
