Our wool socks are pleasantly stretchy, and each of our Bentley Komet knitting machines is unique, so there are slight differences in size between pairs of wool socks, just like there are between all of our feet.

How to choose the right size for your wool socks

When choosing wool socks, the right size directly affects how comfortable and functional the socks feel on your feet.

Basic idea: choose according to the size of the shoe

Our size chart is based on European shoe sizes – when choosing wool socks, first check your shoe size.

The table includes sizes 35–55, so you can find the right option for both smaller and larger feet, including special sizes.

For example:

  • Size 37–39 corresponds to a foot length of approximately 21–23 cm.
  • Size 43–45 fits a foot length of approximately 27 cm.
  • The largest sizes, 50–52 and 53–55, are designed for larger feet.

The knit used in Villasukki socks is stretchy, so they mold around your feet, but the right size ensures comfort and prevents constant stretching or squeezing.

Frequently asked questions

If you are unsure of your correct shoe size, it is best to measure your feet in the afternoon, when they are at their largest:

  1. Place your heel against the wall on top of the paper and mark the longest toe with a pencil.
  2. Repeat with the other leg.
  3. Measure the length in centimeters and choose the longer foot.
  4. Compare the measurement to the size chart: for example, if your foot is 27 cm long, choose socks with a leg length that matches this or is slightly larger.

Please note that in well-fitting wool socks, the length of the sock should be slightly shorter than the length of the foot.

  • Feels comfortable all day long – no tightness or loose movement.
  • Socks stay in place better – less rolling or wrinkling inside the shoe.
  • Longer service life – the correct size reduces excessive stretching or wear.

  • If you have very wide feet or want a little more room, you should take this into account when choosing your size – every foot is unique.
  • In long-handled models, the length of the handle increases with size; for example, in the largest models, the handle is significantly longer than in the smallest ones.

Yes, but if you like airiness between your foot and the wool sock, it is worth choosing wool socks that are one size larger.

There are many different tastes, and every foot is different – narrow, wide, or high instep. Shoes are best worn in your own size, but at home many people prefer to wear wool socks that fit more loosely.

If your foot size falls between two sizes, choose the larger size. For example, if your size is 42.5, choose 43–45.

The knit stretches and a tighter wool sock fits better on the foot. A wool sock that is too loose rubs against the shoe and wears out faster.

The length of the handle does not affect the size selection.

There are no specific sizes or models for wide feet. Our wool socks are suitable for average Finnish feet.

Wool socks may shrink slightly if washed at temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius. This does not need to be taken into account when choosing the size if you follow the washing instructions provided.

We do not, at least for the time being, manufacture children’s sizes.

If you do not know the recipient’s shoe size, we recommend choosing size 40–42 for women and 43–45 for men.

Based on online store data, the most common sizes for women’s wool socks are 40–42 and for men’s 43–45.

Summary

  • Choose the size of your wool socks primarily based on your shoe size and foot length.
  • When you are unsure between two sizes, choose the larger one – a size that is too small is more inconvenient than one that is slightly larger.
  • The right size ensures a comfortable user experience and a long service life for the socks.
